O’s Notes: This Occasion found Harry Connick paired with Branford Marsalis. Harry dedicates his effort to playing piano with Branford on sax. It’s a duel between two friends with mutual admiration. They experiment and enjoy the session. It includes playful jaunts with a ragtime feel on the title track and “Spot”. This is contrasted with the blue tones of “Steve Lacy” and “Chanson Du Vieux Carre”. They skip the showboating and instead keep to a more relaxed pace. Yes, they display their talents but in a mature and controlled fashion.
