O’s Notes: Smith is at his best in this format: a relaxed, open stage with open expanses for improvisation. He and his accompaniment, a large ensemble, take full advantage with almost 2 hours of free form jazz in five movements. They take us in and out of their moods over the course of the evening and that is a gut wrenching as a suspense movie. We enjoyed Occupy The World, a musical expression of the “Occupy” protests of late 2011. Smith uses music to state his position of equality, balance and freedom. Extensive liner notes tell more about the man, his music and his thoughts.
