O’s Notes: Beat Funktion is a funky jazz band out of Sweden. Daniel Lantz is the leader, producer, arranger, composer and pianist. He gets strong support from a team that includes fellow Swedes Karl Olandersson (t), Olle Thunström (sax), Johan ijen (g), Pal Johnson (b) and Jon Eriksson (d). The groove is retro contemporary jazz and soul circa 1970s. The new music captures all of the essence across a wide range of tempos. In addition to Beat Funktion’s now highly regarded instrumentals, guest vocalists Damon Elliott, Sani Gamedze and Rebecca Laakso help them expand their reach. Olympus is the fifth album and it has already topped the charts!
