O’s Notes: Trio 3 consists of three seasoned musicians: Andrew Cyrille (d), Oliver Lake (sax) and Reggie Workman (b). The music is all new, a cross between cool jazz and free jazz but open and clear all the way through. The experience comes out with a lot of poise in the solos; confident playing that lets each of them cruise through complex runs with exacting precision. The winner is the listener.
