O’s Notes: Guitarist Jim Campilongo teams up with Stephan Crump (b) and Tony Mason (d) to form a trio that is the backbone of this collection of these fourteen originals selections. They open with “Backburner” featuring Jim’s distorted electric guitar melodies. They quickly change pace on “Awful Pretty, Pretty Awful”, a playful guitar romp that we thought was more pretty than awful. “Blues For Roy” is the first of the blues tunes that dominate the theme of Orange. Leah Siegel sings a smoky, raspy blues on two tracks notably “No Expectations”. Jim shows his mellow side on the title track and “Chelsea Bridge” before heading back to the electric rock mode on “Fingerpuppet”. We liked the subtle funk of “I’ve Got Blisters On My Fingers” but generally preferred his relaxed side.
