O’s Notes: James Moody (sax) and Hank Jones (p) are consummate soldiers of jazz with everlasting youth. They lead a quartet with Todd Coolman (b) and Adam Nussbaum (d). The program includes a dozen classics where they cook (“Birk’s Works”, “Eternal Triangle”…) and swing (“Con Alma”, “Lady Bird”…). Moody’s phrasing is unique and Jones is the perfect accompaniment especially on “Body and Soul”. James switches to flute for his own tune, “Darben the Red Foxx” adding yet another dimension to a balanced set before Roberta Gambarini closes with the lone vocal track “Moody’s Groove”.
