O’s Notes: Santos has quite a biography. He was born in Brazil in 1926 and learned to play many instruments at a young age. He left home at 14 becoming a musician then migrating to Rio then Los Angeles. He initially starred on sax but remained a student of music and eventually became a conductor. He was recognized as an advocate of the bossa nova movement and became a teacher to many. Moacir’s music speaks for itself and these two discs capture the splendor to give us a large glimpse of his work. The beats are Afro-Brazilian and are all pleasing.
