O’s Notes: Canadian jazz singer and pianist Laila Biali is reaching her stride 20 years into her musical career. She now resides in New York and has surrounded herself with top talent for Out Of Dust, her latest release. George Koller (b), Alan Ferber (tb) and Lisa Fischer are among the extensive cast. Biali gives us French lyrics on “au Pays de Cocagne” and a beautiful tone on “Take Me To The Alley”. Bassist Rich Brown adds a funky backdrop on “The Baker’s Daughter” and “Sugar” extending the audience but remaining on the jazzy adult contemporary jazz side. She wraps the set with “Take The Day Off” reminding us to remain balanced and pause to reflect.
