O’s Notes: Pianist John Samorian has a pleasant voice that he spreads over the first four of eleven mostly original selections. Then he focuses on the piano and hands the mic over to guest vocalist Kim Shriver. It is great to hear new tunes as opposed to regurgitated standards over and over again. Samorian’s arrangements integrate the vocals and music optimizing the performance of all of the musicians especially guitarist Kevin Lurke. They change the pace adding some blues with “I Wish I Didn’t Love You”. John comes back scatting to open “Lonely” and swinging on “Singapore” around Kim’s ballads. This is a subtle performance that grows on you!
