O’s Notes: We are all used to strong jazz-fusion performances by Dave Holland. Generally those have been in groups of 3 to 5 musicians. Overtime is a large ensemble including soloists Antonio Hart (as, ss, fl), Chris Potter (ts), Robin Eubanks (tb), Steve Nelson (vibes), Duane Eubanks (t) and of course Dave on bass. The combination, especially the marimba accents by Nelson make the session sizzle. They play six Holland originals including 4-part “Monterey Suite” with 4 seasons and Robin Eubanks’ “Mental Images” ending with the subtle funky beats of “Last minute man”. The moods revolve around a powerful essence that sounds very good.
