O’s Notes: Seasoned German vocalist, actress Ute Lemper sings classic Kurt Weill compositions celebrating the 75th anniversary of his death. The songs are freshened with modern instrumentation and contemporary beats. We are greeted with Ute’s deep sultry vocals on the opening track, “Moritat of Mack the Knife”, and “Speak Low”. We also enjoyed the mysterious “Surabaya Johnny” and “Solomon-Song”. The layered depth of sound adds to the chilling effects.
