O’s Notes: Sri Lankan drummer, composer and producer Rajiv Jayaweera leads a band that includes Aaron Parks (p), Hugh Stucker (g), Sam Anning (b) and Chris Cheek (sax). Pistils was inspired by the natural beauty of Jayaweera’s homeland leading to a peaceful set of mixed tempo jazz-fusion. They open and close with the title track, first as a ballad featuring vocalist Lara Bello and then as an instrumental with Cheek leading the melody. We also enjoyed the bubbly spirit of “Galadari” and “Hirimbura”.
