O’s Notes: Pitom is a progressive rock/free fusion band led by guitarist Yoshie Fruchter with Jeremy Brown (violin), Shank Blumenkranz (b) and Kevin Zubek (d). They crank up the distortion and take their audience to the edge. They bill themselves as playing “punkassjewjazz”. It’s definitely a polar experience. There’s a hint of klezmer, lots of rock on top of electric fusion. Dynamics are balanced along with tempo but the mode is constant. The best of the lot were “The Dregs” and “Sadie’s Splinter”.
