O’s Notes: Saxophonist, composer Chris Greene was born in Evanston, IL, attended Indiana University and returned home where he lives and plays at Space in Evanston! He leads a quartet with Damian Espinosa (p), Marc Piane (b) and Steve Corley (d) on Play Harder, a live recording. They open with a taste of free-flowing fusion on “Divers” before arriving at fresh take on “Caravan”. Melodies come from each of the musicians in the well-knit band. They are a tad funky on “Samba Fu Magna” and soulful on “You Win Again”. The music is energizing and easy to embrace as evidenced by the applause.
