O’s Notes: Angela is stunning. Her voice is deep, foggy and sultry giving a unique feel to these romantic ballads. The program is a mix of standards with a few originals. Hagenbach is Brazilian and the samba beat creeps into many of the rhythms. “You Keep Calling Me” uses afoxé, a common rhythm from the first capital of Brazil: Salvador, Bahia. While there is a lot of variety, some of our favorites were “Never Let Me Go”, “Tell Me About It” and “Blues Are Brewin'” featuring Clark Terry’s trumpet and mumbling complementing Angela’s scatting.
