O’s Notes: The core of this all-star band is Oliver Lake (as, ss), Bluiett (bs), David Murray (ts, cl) and bassist Jamaaladeen Tacuma. “Mannish Boy” combines a slow blues bass line with wah wah guitar & vocals from James ‘Blood’ Ulmer contrasted with the pleas emanating from Bluiett’s baritone and the rest of the sax attack. There is tight funky marching beat on “Let’s Have Some Fun” that cooks. The political side of this CD is the strong statements of the title track, “Spy On Me Blues” and “Amazing Disgrace”. Each provides a provocative view from the other side that will make you think, grieve and hopefully stand up.
