O’s Notes: Nate plays sax and flute and cooks up a set of eleven modern jazz tunes for his quintet. Travis Reuter (g), Billy Test (p), Louis De Mieulle (b) and Paolo Cantarella (d) join the tenor saxophonist in a metro NYC recording. This is 23 year-old Hook’s debut recording and he is the latest of a lineage of strong Texas saxophonists. But like many jazz musicians, he’s polished his chops in New York. Among the best tunes are “Little Demons” and “Lantern Face” both indications of more good things to come from Hook.
