O’s Notes: Cellist Friedlander assembles a quartet with Andy Laster (sax, cl), Stomu Takeishi (b) and Satoshi Takeishi (perc). This is all new music written by Erik and it varies from the free spirited “Howling Circle” to more open, adventurous tunes like “Chanting” and then to the funky fusion of “Rain Bearers” and the title track, our favorite of the set. While this is rather eclectic music, it grew on us as we listened. It is aggressive but engaging and we liked it.
