O’s Notes: Charlie Hunter goes solo for Public Domain, a collection of eleven classic popular and blues tunes. He plays a seven-string guitar allowing him to sound like a bass and guitar combo! As the title suggests these songs are all from the public domain (no royalties). The recording is also monophonic but by no means poor sound wise. Hunter does a good job of reinvigorating these classics. He gets a little funky on “Low Bridge Song” and “Cielito Lindo” two of our favorites. Other highlights are “Limehouse Blues” and “St. Louis Blues”. Excellent technique and good performance.
