O’s Notes: Samuel Pompeo is a fine saxophonist especially on the baritone where he is melodic, warm and embraceable. For“Que Descaída“he leads a quintet with Dino Barioni (g), Fabio Leandro (p), Gibson Freitas (b) and Paulinho Vicente (d). Each of them gets a few moments in the spotlight where Barioni sparkles. There’s a hint of klezmer weaved into the fabric of a few selections but most of the music is swinging, jovial, modern jazz. The playful spirit of songs like “Apanhei-Te Cavaquinho” typifies the set.
