O’s Notes: 7 Crossing is a contemporary jazz septet featuring Clay Oswald (p), Lindsey Blair (g), Jorge Casas (b), Oblin Burgos (d), Edwin Bonilla (percent), David Fernandez (sax) and singer Joy Francis. They open with the energetic title track. “Sedona” has a mellow groove that reminded us of Spyro Gyra. Joy makes her debut on “Once I Loved” the first of 3 vocal tracks. It is a peaceful ballad. Guest artist Leesa Richards adds soft soulful vocals to the upbeat groove, “I’ll Remember You” followed by the Latin infused “Invitation” with guests Teddy Mulet (t) and John Michalak (sax). This is a jovial, versatile set that is sophisticated yet accessible with several strong selections.
