O’s Notes: Drummer Paul Yonemura leads three trios on Reunion, a journey that spans his musical career. Trio #1 includes Rick Helzer (p) and John Lauffenburger (b). The second group has Frank Martin (p) and David Dunaway (b). The final trio has Michael Wolff (p) and Doug Miller (b) with John Wiitala playing bass on “Chelsea”. The different trios illustrate Yonemura’s evolution and slight changes in style. The program is mostly standards with two originals. We liked the dynamic interaction on “Seventh Heaven” showcasing trio #2. The set serves as a culminating collection for Yonemura and his fans.
