O’s Notes: Ride Into The Sun is a change of pace for pianist Brad Mehldau touching several contemporary genres. Brad focuses on the music of the late songwriter, singer, guitarist Elliott Smith with ten of sixteen selections. He employs a chamber orchestra led by Dan Coleman for “Better Be Quiet Now”. Daniel Rossen sings “Tomorrow Tomorrow”. “Colorbars” features vocalist/mandolinist Chris Thile. These 3 are video selections! We enjoyed Melhdau’s a warm solo performance on “Sweet Adeline”, the gentle country swagger on “Everybody Cares, Everybody Understands”, and the pleasant “Sunday”.
