O’s Notes: Composer, conductor Jim McNeely teams up with tenor saxophonist, composer Chris Potter and the Frankfurt Radio Big Band for an expressive dedication to Stravinsky. The sound is symphonic on the 6-Part Rituals suite composed by McNeely. The pace varies but we especially enjoyed the urgency of “Sacrifice I”. We also enjoyed the soothing character of Potter’s “Wine Dark Sea” and “Okinawa” featuring saxophonists Potter and Heinz-Dieter Sauerborn.
