O’s Notes: Roseanna Vitro (vocals) and Kenny Werner (keyboards) are the key collaborators for this project. They assemble a strong band including Randy Brecker (t), John Patitucci (b) and James Carter (sax). They open with a slowed down arrangement of TOP’s “What Is Hip”. With the brass lineup, it was a shame not to use them to full effect. But there is a different vibe going on here; it is blues! They play to the title on “Blue” capturing the dark mood while swinging with a smokehouse feel. “Be Cool” followed along the same lines with Adam Rogers (g) contributing a cool solo. These are very unique arrangements for sure. Among the best were the blues duet with Patitucci on “In The Dark” and Vitro’s stirring rendition of “Everybody’s Cryin’ Mercy”.
