O’s Notes: British singer, songwriter, producer Tessa Souter pays homage to the works of the legendary French pianist, composer Erik Satie, a non-traditional composer who created unique musings that have been influential for countless musicians. For Shadows & Silence Souter rearranged many of Satie’s works and added lyrics. Pianist, percussionist Luis Perdomo also arranged a few selections. Billy Drummond (d, perc) and Yasushi Nakamura (b) round out the primary trio. Steve Wilson plays soprano sax on three selections notably “D’où Venons-Nous”. Pascal Boderies parodies spoken word (in French) on “Vexations”, and Nadje Noordhuis plays flugelhorn on Wayne Shorter’s “Never Broken”. We also enjoyed “Rayga’s Song” and “A Song for You”.
