O’s Notes: Vocalist Vanisha Gould sings a rich, melodic, conversational lyrics about everyday life topics in front of a trio featuring bassist John Sims, pianist Chris McCarthy, and Jongkuk Kim on drums. The combination is well integrated putting Gould into the spotlight with all the right accents. When she pauses from the mic, the musicians are appreciable, especially on “Cute Boy”. She’s Not Shiny, She’s Not Smooth, is fine set whether you’re tapping your feet to the beats or engaging in the stories!
