O’s Notes: Boston based saxophonist Jerry Bergonzi is back with his second release on Savant. Dave Santoro (b), Andrea Michelutti (d) and Bruce Barth (p) appeared on 2010’s Convergence. Trumpeter Phil Grenadier joins them for Shifting Gears, a quintet performance of modern jazz. All on the music is written and arranged by Bergonzi. It has a swinging pace that comes together nicely on tunes like “Zoning”.
