O’s Notes: Marcus Miller has injected funk into many contemporary jazz artist efforts both as a composer and bassist. This effort as a leader is at least as exciting as his supporting roles and one of his best efforts to date. “Behind The Smile” is one of several tracks that surface Miller’s abundance of technique along with sense of melody. The songs have more substance than many ‘smooth jazz’ efforts while being accessible to most listeners. “Frankenstein” will excite rock and roll fans while “Boogie on Reggae Woman” gets the R&B groove going capping a top-notch performance.
