O’s Notes: Jazz vocalist Roseanna Vitro sings a dozen tunes celebrating Charlie Parker’s music. She also honors three of her vocalist heroes, Bob Dorough, Sheila Jordan and Marion Cowings, who all sing on Sing A Song Of Bird. There’s a lot to enjoy here: “Grapple With The Apple”, “Audubon’s New Bluebird” featuring Dorough, “Now’s The Time” with Cowings, “Sheila , Jazz Child”, and “Quasimodo”, the last two featuring Jordan. Vitro sings a few alone and a few with her mentors, shining in the spotlight. We also enjoyed “Ko Ko / Cherokee” and “Parker’s Mood” with excellent accompaniment from saxophonist Gary Bartz.
