O’s Notes: Alexis is a stage-worthy vocalist who sings and scats in front of a polished big band on Sky Blossom. Her voice is easy to embrace, especially with the fine accompaniment. She trades with crisp horn soloists throughout the session. We enjoyed “Pure Imagination” with a sax solo by Bob Sheppard, “Our Love Is Here To Stay” “New York State Of Mind” featuring saxophonist Derrick James, “How Long Has This Been Going On” and “Estate” featuring trumpeter/conductor Jeff Jarvis. Scott Arcangel does an excellent job of providing unique arrangements giving these standards a new lease on life.
