O’s Notes: Plains Peak is a free jazz quartet featuring Jon Irabagon (a-sax), Russ Johnson (t), Clark Sommers (b), and Dana Hall (d). They open with the melancholic title track and continue in that vein with “Tiny Miracles (at a funeral for a friend)”. All six selections are Irabagon originals and he’s wailing on “The Pulseman”. Other highlights are “Buggin’ the Bug” and “At What Price Garlic”. We also make note of The Irabbagast Record, the liner notes that go well beyond describing the performance to providing a historical tour of the Windy City.
