O’s Notes: Pianist and composer Fred Hersch found himself lonely and away from audiences early in the pandemic. Eventually he began to reach out to his fans with daily Facebook sessions. He reminded himself that he could create a beautiful landscape with solo piano as he’d done many times in the past. Songs From Home was recorded in his second home, away from NYC in Pennsylvania on a 7-foot Steinway. He chose mostly standards for this release, tunes that were popular in his youth and a couple of his own. It is a soothing set that fits the bill for many occasions.
