O’s Notes: Monday uses vocalizations, spoken word and jazz harmonization to express her Soulception, a collection of eleven contemporary, Latin-fused ballads that are instantly familiar. Michiru wrote, arranged and produced most of the music borrowing a few from the likes of Nascimento and de Holanda. We really enjoyed “Native Tongue”, “The Elusive Song” and “Bridges” with guest vocalist Ed Motta. It doesn’t take long to warm up to her groove and she gives us a variety of textures, all cast in a favorable light.
