O’s Notes: This is a duo recording with saxophonist Vito Dieterle and pianist Joel Forrester. They play a mix of Monk tunes and Forrester originals, both ballads and swingers. Among the best are “Don’t Ask Me Now” with a cat and mouse treatment of the melody, Crepuscule With Nellie”, “Let’s Call This” and “The Comeback”. They sound much larger than two and present a compelling package.
