O’s Notes: Strength & Power is a free jazz collaboration featuring pianist Jamie Saft, bassist Trevor Dunn, Balazs Pandi on drums and trombonist Roswell Rudd. The opening title track has a powerful and pronounced statement with Rudd taking on the melody with his deep, brash horn. Even with that, the stage remains open and lucid drawing listeners into their space. This is a very unique listening experience fueled by the original pieces composed by the band. Our favorite is “Dunn’s Falls” in a very listenable set that like many Avante Garde sessions will stretch your imagination.
