O’s Notes: 9 Horses is a trio featuring composer Joe Brent (mandolin, g, violin, banjo, perc, synths), Sara Caswell (violin), and Andrew Ryan (b). There are many guest artists appearing throughout the eight selections. Each song includes plucking or strumming an instrument, hence Strum is the title. There is delightful violin on opening title track along including sax from Sam Sadigursky. We liked the funky twist on “Gasparilla” with Michael Bellar on the B3. Mike List adds tabla giving an East Indian feel to “Röhrl” and “Jenny-Pop Nettie Eater”.
