O’s Notes: The Hammond B3 was a permanent fixture in the NY-Philly corridor at The Peppermint Lounge, St. Nick’s Pub, Ortliebs, and the H&H Lounge! These are venues where tenor saxophonist, composer Anthony Nelson was inspired by famous groove trios. Nelson invites Kyle Koehler (B3) and Cecil Brooks III (d) to join him on Swinging Sunset. There’s not a lot of showboating, just the essentials on classics like “Girl Talk”, “Minor Chant”, “Walk With Me”, and “Why Did I Choose You”.
