O’s Notes: Japanese pianist, composer Ittetsu Nasuda was educated at Berklee and then established himself on the Latin jazz scene in New York City. Tailwind is his recording debut, centered on Afro-Cuban jazz. Dan Neville (vibraphone), Gabriel Vivas (b), Juan Chiavassa (d), and Takafumi Nikaido (perc) join him. We liked the calypso beats on “Arroz Con Mi Son” and “Centre Habana”, the fine bass work by Vivas on “September Breeze”, “Ishigaki Blues”, and the mild Japanese influence on “Greyscale” and “Sparkling Reflection”. Nasuda is one to watch!
