O’s Notes: This first of seven volumes in the new Ivo Perelman/Matthew Shipp series is titled“Titan. The band is a trio with bassist William Parker, Shipp on piano and Ivo playing sax. Ivo is aggressive on his melodies including less edgy tone than usual. This leads to more defined, melodic passages. Shipp and Perelman are running counter current while Parker does a good job anchoring the set adding lots of depth with his bowing technique. There are six songs over fifty minutes, just enough to wet your whistle.
