O’s Notes: This 2-disc collection features Miles and Rollins during the 1951-1956 period when they recorded together for Prestige Records. The package is loaded with great music and musicians playing in six different configurations. We preferred the second disc with the later sessions that had better fidelity. In addition to the headliners, Charlie Parker (ts), Horace Silver (p), Bennie Green (p), Percy Heath (b), Paul Chambers (b), Roy Haynes (d), Art Blake (d) and Philly Joe Jones (d) make appearances. They play 25 songs highlighted by “Oleo”, “Compulsion”, “Denial” and “But Not For Me”. This is a good sampling of the bebop of the 1950s in a thriving jazz scene.
