O’s Notes: Renowned vocalist Janis Siegel teams up with pianist Yaron Gershovsky for The Colors Of My Life. The list of all-stars that Gershovsky has supported is endless, ranging from Ray Brown to Pharoah Sanders to Toots Thielemans, and Take 6! The headliners play as a duet on “That’s My Style”, but we also love the full band with drummer Cliff Almond and bassists Boris Kozlov or David Finck providing a rich canvas for Siegel. They add strings on ”Being Without You” and the title track. The vocal harmonies on “Playboy’s Theme” with background vocals from Aubrey Johnson remind us of Siegel’s work with Manhattan Transfer. We also enjoyed Siegel soaring on “Witchcraft”.
