O’s Notes: We loved Mirage (4/3) featuring Landrus with strings interwoven with his compositions. This time out his works in a trio with drummer Billy Hart and Lonnie Plaxico on bass. Landrus plays baritone sax, bass clarinet, bass sax and bass flute making The Deep Below an appropriate title. The music is mostly original with three covers notably Ellington’s “Sophisticated Lady”. Brian handles most of the melodies in this creative set and done a fine job. The more we listened the more we liked it!
