O’s Notes: Well into his 90s, venerable guitarist George Freeman is aging like a fine wine, with all the nuances and tones to please discerning listeners but with a tad less velocity. He’s the last of the exceptional Chicago-based Freeman musical family that included Bruz (d) and Von (t-sax). Here George teams up with drummer Lewis Nash and the late Joey DeFrancesco on the B3 for three selections and deploys bassist Christian McBride and drummer Carl Allen for the other four songs. They simmer, groove, and slow-cook some delicious flavors on The Good Life! “Mr. D”, “Up and Down”, and the title track are highlights.
