O’s Notes: Canadian trombonist, composer Audrey Ochoa has been illuminating the jazz scene north of the border lately and The Head Of A Mouse is a strong statement towards that end. She leads a strong team of musicians over thirteen selections. They open with the vibrant, Latin title track before slowing down a tad on “My Mom” with Jim Head (g), Jennifer Bustin (violin), and Ian Woodman (cello). Head returns imparting a taste of fusion on “The Con Artist” and leading the melody on “Embarrassed To Say” with Ochoa singing as well! They swing on “Ms. Lastrassi” with sweet, harmonized horns including Rachel Therrien (t) and Jeremiah McDade (t-sax).
