O’s Notes: Keyboardist Tobin Mueller teams up with saxophonist Woody Mankowski to give us The History of Jazz starting with early New Orleans beats and swinging into bebop, before moving to a contemporary bent with blues, funk and fusion. The leaders play most instruments with additions by Fran Dagostino (g), Dane Richeson (d), and Jeff Cox (b). “Cliff’s Edge” is one of two selections from a 2009 release with Tobin on organ and his nephew Chris Mueller on piano. We liked “Seafood Gumbo” featuring vocalist Angela Hope, the funky “Lost In The West Village”, “Saddle Shoe Sally”, and the funky “Deconstruction of a Glance”.
