O’s Notes: Charles Mingus is undoubtedly one of the premier jazz bassists and bandleaders of all time. The Jazz Workshop Concerts from 1964-65 are fascinating works with spontaneous improvisation featuring Charles in various configurations. His accompaniment includes Jacki Byard (p), Eric Dolphy (t) and Clifford Jordan (ts). Most of the compositions are by Mingus but he includes several classics by Ellington and others. This Mosaic set includes seven CDs and extensive liner notes in a font that is legible along with photos. It is an excellent listen for multiple sessions and a treasure for Mingus fans.
