O’s Notes: This is a collection of contemporary jazz-fusion songs written and produced by guitarist Jon Larsen. He shines on “Turn It on Elliot” and shares the stage with his band as they take us through a surrealistic space odyssey! We liked the funky groove of “Hi Boys and Girls, I’m Jimmy Carl Black” with nice work on the harmonica by Knut Reiersrud and Rob Waring playing the marimba on “An Early Glimpse of Planet Earth”. “Opal, You Hot Little Bitch” had a mild reggae beat. We also enjoyed the vocal tracks featuring Jimmy Carl Black. His lyrics are humorous and backed by cool vibes. “First Encounter With A Real Martian” is one of the best. The second disc is an autobiography of Jimmy Carl Black, an enlightening story about the man and his evolution as a musician. The 2 discs make an excellent package!
