O’s Notes: The dark tones of a baritone saxophone are harmonized to produce a collection of multilayered masterpieces. Evans has placed the big daddy sax in the spotlight and presents it as a solo musical force. The music is mostly free jazz with Charles drawing on his inner emotions. Sax players and fans of the instrument may find this to be an intriguing album but it may be too much of a good thing for the rest of us. Hats off the Evans for breaking new ground with the baritone sax!
