O’s Notes: Those of us who read liner notes may recall Marilyn singing with Tower of Power and several other contemporary jazz bands. But Scott is the headliner on The Landscape produced by Jimmy Haslip who also plays bass on the recording. This is a pleasant session showcasing Marilyn’s soft and warm tones. She sings in front of contemporary jazz including proven performers Russell Ferrante (keyboards), Vinnie Colaiuta (d), Jimmy Branly (d) and Alex Acuña (perc). Scott’s lyrics are well articulated and she speaks openly about the times on “Irreplaceable”, then she encourages us to “Unzip”, enjoy “The Sun” and a “Summer Night” in a performance that belies her age (72).
